In January 2000, the Campus Development Department of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) appointed CRHI to carry out a structural assessment of over sixty of their campus buildings. The conclusions were presented in October 2000 and since that time another commission has been made to appraise a further twenty-five buildings at their headquarters campus.
Investigative works included visual appraisal, chemical analysis, strength testing, cover metre survey, and degree of carbonation. Specialist testing work is undertaken by qualified sub-contractors closely monitored by Campbell Reith Hill engineers. As part of the service, CRHI programmed the works to minimise disruption to student and staff activities.
Once all factual data was collected, there follows a detailed assessment of the existing condition and risk of future deterioration of structural elements, in conjunction with strength analyses. Comprehensive reports containing firm recommendations for remedial works and/or strengthening measures are then presented. Detailed Bills of Quantities are prepared to facilitate procurement and cost control of remedial works contracts.
